Rutland Sailability provides its members with the opportunity to undertake formal training courses at little or no cost to themselves. The training is provided by RYA qualified instructors and is usually given at the Rutland Sailing Club site.
The training ranges from training specific to RS, such as People Handling skills, to formal RYA training courses, such as Instructor and Senior Instructor courses.
Formal RYA courses offered include RYA Dinghy or Keelboat Level 1 and 2, Powerboat handling, First Aid and Instructor training.
Other non-RYA training is provided which is more appropriate to the Sailability operation. These courses include People Handling (lifting people in hoists), Disability Awareness, driving tractors and electric and petrol-driven buggies as well as the duties for the Jetty Master. These short training courses help ensure that we do things safely.
There are a number of RYA qualified DInghy and Keelboat Instructors, Senior Instructors and a Chief Instructor who is responsible for the overall sailing and safety of the RS activity. In addition, we have allocated a Senior Instructor (SI) to lead and manage the training for each of our fleets of boats
