The role of Shore Support is to manage the maintenance of all our equipment that will support the launching and recovery of our boats and all other equipment that supports the operation of the club, such as our office equipment and buoyancy aids.
Launch and Recovery Vehicle and Buggies
We have a diesel-powered launch/recovery vehicle which we use to launch and recover our heavier boats, such as the safety boats, Kinsman and Longboats. In order to operate this equipment safely, members are trained and tested in the operation of the specific equipment.
In addition, we have a petrol-driven buggy and an electric buggy, which we use to launch and recover some of the smaller boats and to transport some of our less able members around the site.
Buoyancy Aids and Clothing
We maintain a stock of buoyancy aids and waterproof clothing.
We currently operate two safety boats, namely, a Multi Pioneer and a RIB, both of which are powered by petrol outboard engines. Drivers of these boats must be qualified to RYA Power Boat 2 standard and club safety boat standard.
In order to stay in touch and for safety reasons, we use VHF two-way radios between the Duty Controller, Reception, Jetty and the larger boats.
We have jetty hoists and a mobile hoist, all are used to lift people into and out of our boats. Training and qualification is provided by the club to ensure people are lifted safely.
